It’s been a big week at Stone’s Throw Farm. On Wednesday, I transplanted the first round of broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, and kohlrabi. My neighbor Rick of Northern Harvest Farm and his intern, Heather Marie, saved me a ton of time by helping me put on the row cover, which excludes the bugs. Thanks, guys!
At the end of the day Wednesday, I stuck a few onions in the ground, just for fun.
Yesterday, Elden and I strung the wire for the deer fence and got it electrified. I hope the deer stay away, but I’m sure some are bound to get zapped. I just hope they back away instead of plunging forward through the fence. Hmmm . . . we shall see how this works.
Today, Janaki came over from the Food Farm and hooked up the breaker for the well pump for me, so we now have running water! Also, it snowed. It’s going to be really cold tonight and tomorrow night, so I took the little pop-up hoophouse out to the farm and set it up inside the big hoophouse. I moved the tomatoes and peppers into the little hoophouse and hooked up a mini electric heater. It seemed easier than trying to heat the big hoophouse, which is not exactly air tight at this point.
