Care about small farmers? How about healthy, sustainable food? Do you support a Fair Farm Bill? If you answered yes, yes, and yes (or yes, yes, and no–I’d like to hear what you have to say!), then consider attending the Fair Farm Bill Campaign Kickoff Meeting presented by Food & Water Watch on Wednesday, September 21st from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Duluth’s Whole Foods Co-op, 410 E 4th St. Refreshments will be provided.
I received a phone call last night about the Fair Farm Bill Campaign and this morning found an announcement from our local Sustainable Farming Association in my mailbox, so I decided to pass on the campaign mantra and let folks decide for themselves:
Right now, our country’s food system is broken. A few large companies, like Cargill and Monsanto, control every part of our food system, squeezing consumers and driving out small and mid-sized farmers.
We all have the right to safe, healthy food. This year, we have a chance to make sure the USDA implements the 2008 Fair Farm Rules, which level the playing field for small and mid-sized farmers, giving consumers access to safer, more sustainable food.
Right now, Senator Amy Klobuchar is on the fence on this issue. We need your help to make sure she stands up to big agribusiness— and supports small farmers, consumers and the environment.
Come to the Fair Farms Campaign Kickoff Meeting to learn how you can get involved! All are welcome – bring friends.
