It’s been a non-eventful week at Stone’s Throw Farm, other than a small flurry of visitors:
- Liam, a musician/farmer who is back at the Food Farm from New York for his annual 30-second visit, came over for a tour and I managed to be a very bad host despite being happy for the visit. Despite my shortcomings as a host, the farm got Liam’s Seal of Approval, so I should put that in all the farm literature now.
- An old friend, Allyson, stopped by on her birthday with Sarah and Gia, and it was great to see all of them. Allyson and Sarah generously offered me three chicks they’re raising that might turn into laying hens or might turn into roosters. I’ve been saying no to such offers all along, but I couldn’t turn this one down for some reason. Sarah said the chicks should be ready to go out on their own next week, I think, so I need to either make a little coop for them pronto or find them another home!
- I was expecting a visit from my friend Lacey, a former Duluthian who was back in town for a week, but there was a phone number issue and we didn’t connect in time, so I’m sad about that. I suppose this technically doesn’t count as a visit, but since she intended to visit and couldn’t through no fault of her own, I’m counting it. So there.
- Yesterday, current Duluthian friends Dee and Erick and their daughter Caroline came out to see the farm and seemed very enthused about the whole thing, which was nice. Caroline managed to finally feed a tomato to a pig without getting her little fingers bitten off (I should clarify that the pigs kept ignoring her for some reason; it wasn’t that she kept getting fingers bitten off!) and I managed to remember to offer them water and so forth. Yay.
I’m looking forward to being a farm visitor myself during Farm Frolic August 21. Maybe I’ll see you there.
