Last Monday, Stone’s Throw Farm members Eli (6), Gabe (9), and Emily took care of our share box delivery. They were very professional, arriving at the farm just before 2:00 pm (via the pool in
Cloquet!) and immediately setting to work loading the boxes into their minivan. They dropped off the boxes at our Minnesota Power pick-up site in downtown Duluth and at my front porch for our farm members.
“This is a doable, fun, family-friendly task,” Emily said. “Which took two hours, max. It’s great to see the farm and to feel that we’re actually partnering in some way in our food system.” It was certainly good for me, the farmer — since I didn’t have to do the delivery in the middle of the day, I was able to get a lot of extra work done at the farm.
For their efforts, Eli, Gabe, and Emily received a few tokens of appreciation, including a pint of cherry tomatoes, an early cucumber and an early zucchini, and an extra bag of snap peas. Emily told me the crunching of peas was about the only way she knew Gabe and Eli were with her in the van on the way back to Duluth, since she couldn’t see much of them over the share boxes!
Five stars to the delivery service from this farmer.
Minnesota, with its generous, thoughtful people, sounds like a place where I’d like to live! Kudos to Emily and family.
